Merchandising

We found a fun way to make a little money on the side was merchandising. 

Many retail stores are small stores with only a skeleton crew.  This means that there are only so many hours in a day and this skeleton crew is expected to cashier, put up stock, process returned merchandise, attend training, help customers find things, clean the store (including restrooms), check in merchandise, as well as deal with vendors. 

These employees simply do not have the time to concentrate on any one display or line of merchandise. 

Companies will often hire merchandisers to visit retail outlets and work their displays.  Sometimes it is as simple as visiting their store and making sure that a display has all the product on it that it is supposed to have.

One battery company paid us, through a third party, to visit a store and blow up balloons.  This is great work if you can get it.  We were to locate the uninflated balloons and make sure that balloons for upcoming events were on display.

Numerus prepaid telephone companies paid us to go to retail stores and organize their displays.  We would set the display to the proper plan (Plan-O-Gram) and then count the merchandise.  It was a very easy task.

If you have an eye for detail, then merchandising might be for you.  One word of warning though, you may get to the point where you can’t walk through a retail store and pass by a can that is facing the wrong way.  We often find ourselves resetting a store display just because we walked by it and it needed attention.
