God Will Take Care of Me/

God Will Take Care of Me

There is an old story that has been told and retold for many generations.  Of course, it gets enhanced just like a fish story does each time it is told.

One day, the Army Corps of Engineers determined that due to heavy rains upriver, the area below the Hartwell Dam would soon be flooded. This dam is situated on the Savannah River right on the South Carolina/Georgia state line.

An evacuation order was issued and volunteers began helping people in the flood area get to safety.   Old man Simpson was kind of set in his ways, but he was a devout Christian and trusted the Lord in everything.

Mr. Simpson decided to sit on his front porch and watch the flood waters rise as he prayed, “God, please take care of me.”  The flood waters got closer.

Mr. Simpson kept praying, “God take care of me.”  The flood waters kept rising.  Shortly, an Army Corps of Engineers boat approached and a corporal said, “Git in the boat.”  Mr. Simpson replied, “No, God will take care of me.”

The waters got higher and higher and soon Mr. Simpson was sitting on the roof of his porch and continued to pray, “God, take care of me.”  About that time, a rescue boat from the Iva Rescue Squad approached.  A member of the dive team yelled out, “Get in the boat and we will take you to safety."  Mr. Simpson replied, “No, God will take care of me.”

Later, the waters had risen even higher and Mr. Simpson was sitting on the roof of his house praying when along came a boat from The American Red Cross. The rescue worker yelled out, “Get in the boat and we will take you to a shelter where you can get food and water.”  Mr. Simpson replied, “No, God will take care of me.”

The water rose even higher and Mr. Simpson was standing on his tip toes on top of his chimney praying when a helicopter from the 82nd Airborne out of North Carolina hovered over and lowered  a rope.  A voice came out of a speaker on the helicopter saying, “Catch a hold of the rope and we will fly you to safety."  Mr. Simpson replied, "No, God will take care of me.”

Soon, the water was above Mr. Simpson’s head and he drowned.  He stood before the Lord in heaven and said, "Lord, I trusted you to save me.  Why did you let me drown?"  To which God replied, “I sent you three boats and a helicopter”.

Merry Christmas 2016

Our family would like to wish you and your family a very safe and very Merry Christmas.  A lot of things have passed our way since last Christmas.  Many of our cat and dog friends have crossed Rainbow Bridge.

It is no longer politically correct to say Merry Christmas or Christmas Tree.  The schools now have Winter Holidays and Holiday Trees.  It is just one more attack on Christianity.

In our effort to hold our ground on Christmas, we are making a point to wish everyone a Merry Christmas.   Not Happy Holidays, not Seasons Greetings, but Merry Christmas, for goodness sakes.

Take time this Christmas to reconnect with friends and family.  Pick up the phone, Skype, or jump in the car and go visit them.

Thanks for being a part of our blog family and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

If you would like for me to pray for you, please drop me an e-mail by clicking prayer.

A Fund Update

A big thank you goes out to all those people who have contributed to Suzanne’s Eye Surgery GoFundMe fundraiser.   You are great!  We still have a long way to go.
Thank you especially to all you Marines who have donated.
Folks, these wonderful Marines, who don’t make enough as it is, have dug deep into their pockets and have been responsible for many of the donations, including some of the largest ones.  Like usual, the Marines are kicking butt and taking names.
Then, we have college students.  These wonderful young adults, some of whom have to sell their blood and plasma just to eat, have given much to this fund.  These people, who live off of ramen noodles, beans, and rice, have given generously.
Thank you to everyone else as well.  We have come pretty far.   We have reached 9.6% of our goal in the first week.  Please don’t let this campaign stall out.
Please help us promote this. If you have a blog, Twitter, YouTube, or any kind of social media, please promote it all you can on these outlets.  If you don’t, you can still help. Send email to your entire contact list.  Tell everyone you know.
Time is of the essence.  The sooner Suzanne has this surgery, the better the results will be.  Without the surgery, this Christmas may be the last Christmas Suzanne gets to see the Christmas lights.
Someone wrote and asked us if they could give via PayPal.  The answer is yes.  If you wish to donate via PayPal, send it as a gift to celticmama36@gmail.com.
Thank you for your support.   Please keep us in your prayers.  By the way, if you know of a program out there that will pay for the surgery, please let us know.

Regards in Christ,
David E. McClendon

Anecdote Hot Water Bottle/ A Doll in The Congo

Years ago, back when we had the Lion’s House Children’s Home, the following story crossed my desk.  Before I shared the story on line, I contacted the missionary mentioned in the story and she verified that it was absolutely correct.

The story appears on line and is again verified at https://www.truthorfiction.com/hotwaterbottle/
The following story was copied from that website.  The author gave us permission years ago to use the story on our website, so I am sure the permission still stands.

THE HOT WATER BOTTLE – A True Story By Helen Roseveare, Missionary to Africa
One night, in Central Africa, I had worked hard to help a mother in the labor ward; but in spite of all that we could do, she died leaving us with a tiny, premature baby and a crying, two-year-old daughter.

We would have difficulty keeping the baby alive. We had no incubator. We had no electricity to run an incubator, and no special feeding facilities. Although we lived on the equator, nights were often chilly with treacherous drafts.

A student-midwife went for the box we had for such babies and for the cotton wool that the baby would be wrapped in. Another went to stoke up the fire and fill a hot water bottle. She came back shortly, in distress, to tell me that in filling the bottle, it had burst. Rubber perishes easily in tropical climates. “…and it is our last hot water bottle!” she exclaimed. As in the West, it is no good crying over spilled milk; so, in Central Africa it might be considered no good crying over a burst water bottle. They do not grow on trees, and there are no drugstores down forest pathways. All right,” I said, “Put the baby as near the fire as you safely can; sleep between the baby and the door to keep it free from drafts. Your job is to keep the baby warm.”

The following noon, as I did most days, I went to have prayers with many of the orphanage children who chose to gather with me. I gave the youngsters various suggestions of things to pray about and told them about the tiny baby. I explained our problem about keeping the baby warm enough, mentioning the hot water bottle. The baby could so easily die if it got chilled. I also told them about the two-year-old sister, crying because her mother had died. During the prayer time, one ten-year-old girl, Ruth, prayed with the usual blunt consciousness of our African children. “Please, God,” she prayed, “send us a water bottle. It’ll be no good tomorrow, God, the baby’ll be dead; so, please send it this afternoon.”

While I gasped inwardly at the audacity of the prayer, she added by way of corollary, ” …And while You are about it, would You please send a dolly for the little girl so she’ll know You really love her?” As often with children’s prayers, I was put on the spot. Could I honestly say, “Amen?” I just did not believe that God could do this. Oh, yes, I know that He can do everything: The Bible says so, but there are limits, aren’t there? The only way God could answer this particular prayer would be by sending a parcel from the homeland. I had been in Africa for almost four years at that time, and I had never, ever received a parcel from home. Anyway, if anyone did send a parcel, who would put in a hot water bottle? I lived on the equator!

Halfway through the afternoon, while I was teaching in the nurses’ training school, a message was sent that there was a car at my front door. By the time that I reached home, the car had gone, but there, on the veranda, was a large twenty-two pound parcel! I felt tears pricking my eyes. I could not open the parcel alone; so, I sent for the orphanage children. Together we pulled off the string, carefully undoing each knot. We folded the paper, taking care not to tear it unduly. Excitement was mounting. Some thirty or forty pairs of eyes were focused on the large cardboard box. From the top, I lifted out brightly colored, knitted jerseys. Eyes sparkled as I gave them out. Then, there were the knitted bandages for the leprosy patients, and the children began to look a little bored. Next, came a box of mixed raisins and sultanas – – that would make a nice batch of buns for the weekend. As I put my hand in again, I felt the…could it really be? I grasped it, and pulled it out. Yes, “A brand-new rubber, hot water bottle!” I cried. I had not asked God to send it; I had not truly believed that He could. Ruth was in the front row of the children. She rushed forward, crying out, “If God has sent the bottle, He must have sent the dolly, too!” Rummaging down to the bottom of the box, she pulled out the small, beautifully dressed dolly. Her eyes shone: She had never doubted! Looking up at me, she asked, “Can I go over with you, Mummy, and give this dolly to that little girl, so she’ll know that Jesus really loves her?”
That parcel had been on the way for five whole months, packed up by my former Sunday School class, whose leader had heard and obeyed God’s prompting to send a hot water bottle, even to the equator. One of the girls had put in a dolly for an African child — five months earlier in answer to the believing prayer of a ten-year-old to bring it “That afternoon!” “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65:24
Helen Roseveare, a doctor missionary from England to Zaire, Africa, told this as it had happened to her in Africa. She shared it in her testimony on a Wednesday night at Thomas Road Baptist Church.

Thanks

Things are going well.  Please continue to spread the word. Many of you have responded with prayers and there have been some sizeable donations.  Thank you for all that each of you is doing to help in this situation.
If you have not already done so, if you would please, share this message on all of your social media.
To recap, Suzanne is 51 years old and cannot work outside of the home because she has to stay home to take care of me since I am legally blind and have had three strokes.  I am a brittle diabetic.
Suzanne also has COPD, arthritis, and some complications from a previous surgery that we are prohibited by court order to discuss.
She is our only driver.  She went for an eye exam and was told she has cataracts in both eyes and needs surgery. We have no insurance for her and have tried everything we know to find insurance.
Insurance through the Affordable Care Act would cost us $3,000+ with an annual co-pay of $6,000.  She does not qualify for Medicaid or Indigent Care. We have called 211 Texas and they have nothing to offer her.  In short, we are going to have to pay out of pocket for this and any related expenses.
We have set up a GoFundMe account to try to raise money towards these expenses. We really do not know how much we will need to fund this.  The figures given us came from a “Best Guess” given by the medical providers along the way.
Each month, we receive $1,221 from social security disability (SSDI).  We will get a raise to $1,225 per month starting January 2017.  Each month, we get $99 in food stamps (SNAP). We will get a decrease starting 15 December 2016 because of the increase to the SSDI.
We need your prayers first and foremost.  If you know of any programs out there that could help, please let us know.
If you can contribute, anything at all, please do so with our gratitude and thanks.
Regards in Christ,
David E. McClendon, Sr.

Be On the Same Page

Be On the Same Page

In order to get all your monkeys under control, it is important that everyone in the family be on the same page.  You can get some of your monkeys to behave without having 100% buy in from everyone in the family.  However, in order to maximize your monkey management, it is important that the family is working together as a team.

This is especially important in a marriage.  If one spouse is trying to manage money better and the other spouse is interested in spending money lavishly, there is a definite conflict and it will be an uphill battle for the frugal spouse, to say the least.

If both members of the couple agree to work together to better manage the family monkeys, the couple can get their lives in order, restore peace to the family, and set aside a sizeable nest egg for the future.

Sit down with your spouse or significant other and discuss where you are as a couple.  Do you want to grow closer and live a more comfortable, smoother life?  If so, working through this course together will help you get there.  If you cannot be on the same page, you may still benefit somewhat from this course.

Book Review How to Pray for a Financial Miracle

Book Review
James L Paris

It is amazing how God can bring insights to you just when you need them.  Skeptics would say it isn’t that God reveals these things to you when you need them, but that you are just more focused on finding things that are related to your situation because that is where your mind is.
.
The author, James L. Paris, introduces us to the great financial times he had, followed by his hardships.  He went from being a multi-millionaire to being almost homeless virtually overnight.

This is a hard situation to be in and is especially embarrassing when you make your living being a Christian financial counselor.   As a child in financial crisis, Mr. Paris saw the best of Christianity with people who sent help in the form of money orders signed “A Friend.”

He also saw the worst of Christianity, with pastors refusing to allow him to speak in their churches because Mr. Paris dared to mention bankruptcy and divorce in his radio broadcasts.

When you have plenty of money, you have plenty of friends.  When you have no money, oftentimes, all you have is a group of people who offer what they think are well-meaning words of wisdom, but are really words that hurt.

Mr. Paris shows us that there is a way out.  The way probably isn’t the way we are expecting.  Sometimes God sends us help in the most unlikely of ways.  We may expect one thing and get it in a completely different way.

Mr. Paris now operates ChristianMoney.com
