Do you know how Christmas got started? If you think you do, chances are good you are wrong. Christmas: A Biography by Judith Flanders provides the historical background of Christmas.
This book is very entertaining. In fact, it is difficult to put down. As a Christian, I want to believe that Christmas of long ago was all centered on the Christ Child and that today everything has gotten too commercial.
But, if you watch the movie Miracle on 34th Street, you will learn that even way back then people thought Christmas had gotten too commercial.
Christmas: A Biography appears to be very well-researched. Of course, we would have no way of knowing how accurate any of this research is.
Five Star Review |
We give Christmas: A Biography all five stars. We think it is excellent. Learning about how other cultures celebrate Christmas and the surrounding holidays was very eye opening.
