Get the HECK Out of Our Way!: EXAMPLES OF GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS THAT ARE ERODING OUR FREEDOMS, HOLDING BACK THE ECONOMY, AND COSTING US MONEY AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT by Dale W. Cox ISBN:978-1-4808-5346-1

By now you have probably heard that our tax dollars go to support some pretty off-the-wall laws.  Get the HECK Out of Our Way!: EXAMPLES OF GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS THAT ARE ERODING OUR FREEDOMS, HOLDING BACK THE ECONOMY, AND COSTING US MONEY AND WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT by Dale W. Cox helps us to see a little better just how far our government has gone astray.

You have, of course, heard how Texas is leaving the union. It is no longer a matter of if, it is a matter of when.  We reviewed the book Texit on our How to Manage Your Monkey Blog a while back.  That book talks about how Texans are fed up with the federal government.

Get the HECK Out of Our Way! kicks it up a notch, as Emeril would say. In this book, we see how the federal government is wreaking havoc on most states.

Maybe you have heard about the USDA paying dairy farmers not to milk.  We used to live nextdoor to one of the largest dairy farmers in South Carolina.  As we understand it, he has been paid not to milk.

Here in Texas, we have heard of a rice farm here in our county being paid not to grow rice. I wish I could find an agency that would pay us not to grow kudzu.  We could get the government to kill it for us and pay us for something we don’t want anyway.

Five Star Review

We give Get the HECK Out of Our Way! all five stars.  It is well-written and well-researched. We did get very tired of reading the same mantra at the end of every chapter.  Cox stated upfront that he was advised to only write it once; we wish he had listened to that advice. Some of the illustrations are a little hard to read, but one must remember that I am legally blind and that might be on my end of things.

We think you will be surprised by what you read in Get the Heck Out of Our Way.  You will probably want to write to your elected officials. Maybe together we can heal our nation.

Caring for Caring by Jane Edwards ISBN: 978-1-4917-9402-9

In the recent past, we have been sent many books on end of life issues such as wills, long term care, insurance, and other issues.

Caring for Caring by Jane Edwards is different. Instead of providing instructions for people who are planning for retirement and the end of their lives, Caring for Caring is geared towards caregivers to help them better help those elders who are near the end of their lives.

This book is very well-written with many anecdotes that help to underscore the importance of leaving elders with their dignity.  It is the kind of book that every personal caregiver should read regardless of whether they are a paid caregiver or a volunteer.
Five Star Review

We give Caring for Caring all five stars.  It is detailed and concise.  It is broken down into very short segments that make it easy to read a segment in practically no time so that one can read it on the go.

We were sent a complimentary copy of this book.  We are under no obligation to write any review, positive or negative.

Perseverance: The Seven Skills You Need to Survive, Thrive, and Accomplish More Than You Ever Imagined by Tim Hague

We are sent scores of books to review each month.  It seems that the subject of Parkinson’s Disease is coming up more and more.

The two books really work well together.  With this book, Perseverance, we learn about the many challenges of living with Parkinson’s Disease, an incurable disease that is caused by lack of dopamine in the body. Tim Hauge decided he wasn’t going to let Parkinson’s Disease slow him down.  He was going to live life to the fullest.

Fighting Parkinson's...and Winning is the story of the author who, like Tim Hague, learned he had Parkinson’s Disease. He also decided he was going to live life to the fullest.  However, in this book the author decided that just because Western medicine says there is no cure for Parkinson’s that does not mean it is so.

The first part of Perseverance gives us the story of a mixed race child born in rural Texas and raised by a loving adopted family.

We follow the author through disappointment after disappointment.  We see how he did not really fit in with any race. He was always too black, too white, or otherwise just not acceptable.

Perseverance will make you laugh, will make you cry, it will make you mad. AND, it will have you on the edge of your seat.

In Perseverance, we read the fascinating and exciting story of the author and his son competing in The Amazing Race Canada.

We see how Tim and his son Tim, Jr. worked to face all the obstacles head on. Even though we learn the outcome of the race early in the book, the excitement is still there.  We still hang on every word.

Five Star Review

We give Perseverance all five stars.  It is very well-written and downright hard to put down.  We think it makes an excellent tool to help others living with Parkinson’s Disease.

If, however, you or someone you love has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and you want to find a different tool box, one that offers a cure, then you will want to read Fighting Parkinson's...and Winning.

Interestingly enough, both books have a similar mindset.  However, Shifke learns that Parkinson’s Disease is not caused by lack of Dopamine.  He found it is that the body does not use what it produces properly and how to retrain the body to use it.

You will want to buy both books.

Resilience: The Science of Mastering Life's Greatest Challenges 2nd Edition by Steven Southwick and Dennis Charney ISBN: 9781108441667

By now most of our readers are well aware that we have read and reviewed many books on psychology.  Perhaps one could say we are amateur psychologists.

This book is a fairly easy read like many pop psych books, but it is loaded with information like a psychology textbook.  It is kind of the best of both worlds.

Resilience is very well-referenced. The book references scores of peer-reviewed articles, as well as books and interviews. We give it all five stars.

If you are interested in why some people break during or after a traumatic event and others don’t, you may find Resilience to be insightful.  We think this would make a great resource for psychology classes that deal in PTSD and other conditions.

We were sent a complimentary Advanced Reading Copy of this book.  We are under no obligation to write any review, positive or negative.

A Marine, Standing in the need of prayer!

Friends,

Our Marine
Here is a link to a fundraiser our son Davey and his wife created to try to raise money to get to New York.  This is not a pleasure trip for them. New York is one of the last places in the world this old redneck ever wants to go.

So, what is going on.  Our son, David, Jr., joined the United States Marines back in 2014.  His goal then was to use the training from the Marines to get into law enforcement here in Wharton, Texas.  It seems that this is the best way in.

Once he got into the Marines, he decided to make it a career.  He had goals and
Our Two Sons
advanced rapidly, for Marines. Many Marines don’t make it past Lance Corporal.  He made it to corporal with plans to go all the way up in the enlisted ladder.

Well, time to reenlist was upon him, so he turned in his reenlistment package and it sat on a desk.  When he checked up on it, he found it had been sitting. He resubmitted it. It was lost. He submitted the package. He was then told his job had been filled and he could not reenlist.

Our Marine
Now, Davey and his wife intend for him to attend college at the New York Institute of Technology using his G.I. Bill funds.  The problem is, he needs money to get to New York and survive until the semester starts. He would get a
stipend.

I know, living in New York is expensive.  Most of us can barely make ends meet without living in one of the most expensive cities in the world.  But, he has always been one to accept a challenge. After all, he is one of the few who earned the right to be called a Marine.

First of all, we would like to ask you for prayers.  Second of all, we would like to ask for you to share the link to their Bonfire promotion.  Rather than ask for money through GoFundMe, Davey and Jamie have decided to sell T-shirts online to pay their way to New York and survive until the G. I. Bill kicks in.

Please pray for Davey and Jamie.  Please ask for the Lord’s guidance and protection.  Please share this link with your contacts and, if you can, please buy one of their shirts.

Davey may be reached at mcclendonstudios@gmail.com.

Thank You for your prayers and support.

Regards in Christ Jesus.

Suzanne G. and David E McClendon, Sr.
